72-Hour Hearings and Court Notifications
After a felony arrest in Madison County, the arresting agency may need a warrant confirmed through the Madison County Magistrate Office. That step can take up to 48 hours. Once the contract is received, the inmate gets a 72-hour hearing to be notified of charges and bond. This hearing applies to district-court cases.
City inmates follow a different schedule. Huntsville city inmates go to Huntsville city court the next business day if no bond is set. Madison city inmates appear on Tuesdays at the jail or on Thursdays at the Madison municipal building, depending on the charges. Verify court dates with the jail or the relevant municipal magistrate.

Exceptions held longer include the wallet, keys, cell phone, jewelry, IDs, legal documents, and purse contents. Bring a release receipt or have the inmate's full name and booking number when arriving.
Clothing for release or trial can be dropped off at the lobby. Jury-trial clothing is accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Central Control. Ordered commissary items left after release are held five business days, picked up at Kimble's Commissary Office in Room 120 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Remaining commissary funds for released inmates are held at the Pistol Permit Office, 603 Fiber Street, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with a valid photo ID.
